Shepparton Villages will be closed to the community as an additional PRECAUTIONARY measure to the Government recommendations surrounding COVID-19. We DO NOT have COVID-19, however, we cannot emphasise enough the importance of infection control measures to protect residents.
Preventing visitors into our facilities is a decision that we have not made without consideration. We fully understand that many residents and their families will be upset and concerned about this action however what is at the forefront of these actions is the wellbeing of our elderly residents, your loved ones, who are more suspectable to the complications associated with COVID-19. Hence, we need your help to keep this virus out of our homes.
One may wonder why we have stepped up the government’s recommendations. Our residential care facilities are large and receive many visitors every day which equate to hundreds of hands that have touched many surfaces within the community daily.
The following infection controls have been put in place and must be adhered to. If the following controls are not adhered to, we will have no option other than to completely close our facility to all visitors regardless, in order to protect our residents.
No one is to enter a Shepparton Villages aged care facility unless absolutely necessary and must first gain approval from the Executive Manager Care Services or CEO.
Direct family members will be allowed into a facility only if the resident needs to see a family member urgently face to face.
If you have been given permission to visit you must adhere to the following precautions:
Special circumstances will apply to palliative/end of life residents in consultation with Care Managers.
These measures are in addition to steps already taken to cancel all external entertainment, school groups and community engagement programs, as well as volunteer programs, external bus trips and large groups of visitors or gatherings.
Again, I must reiterate that the above restrictions have been put in place to protect the elderly, your loved ones, who are most at risk of the complications associated with this virus - COVID-19. Please assist us in enforcing our infection control precautions.
Again, I remind everyone if you meet the “absolutely necessary” criteria and have gained approval to visit, please adhere to the following:
If you have any concerns please contact the Care Manager at your facility, or should you wish to discuss any of the above, please contact either myself or the Executive Manager of Care Services.
These precautions have not been taken lightly as we look after the most vulnerable people in our community and together it is our responsibility to heed these precautions and protect those in our care.
It is our number one priority.
