Dinner nets $30,000 for Shepparton Village's fundraising drive.
Tarcoola Village residents are polishing their skills in anticipation of a three rink bowling green to be installed at the Shepparton aged care facility.
A Shepparton Villages fundraising dinner at the Goulburn Valley Hotel last month helped boost the green's "kitty" to $30000, with $4715 raised purely from the raffle on the night.
The installation of the bowling green will cost $140,000.
Shepparton Villages public relations marketing and fundraising manager Vicki Glazner said the bowling green would help them achieve their goal to keep residents fit, healthy and socially active.
She said the green would also enable residents from Kialla Gardens Village, Kialla and Rodney Park Village, Mooroopna, to interact with those at Tarcoola through friendly inter-village bowls competitions. "With the two new buses we received (last year), residents from other villages can be transported to Tarcoola to make use of the green," Mrs Glazner said.
She said with better access to recreational activities the buses also helped residents remain in touch and involved with the community. The green was unanimously agreed on by residents at a monthly meeting where they meet with Shepparton Villages chief executive Kevin Bertram to discuss ideas and their "wish list" for the villages.
The green will be constructed next to the activity centre and compliment other outdoor facilities such as gazebo and barbecue areas. A special weave synthetic turf will be used for the green's surface which is low maintenance and cost effective. Mrs Glazner hoped the Christmas tax appeal in December and any philanthropic contributions during the year would make up the difference.
