With $165,000 of the $170,000 fundraising target met, Shepparton Villages are well on target to acquire their two new buses in the coming months.
It is anticipated that the buses will arrive for additional safety modifications in the middle of September, which should make them fully operational by the end of September.
The state of the art Mercedes Benz High Roof Sprinters will be fitted with sure lock restraint systems, auto electric step, hand rails and grips to provide the utmost safety features for all users, particularly low mobility patrons.
The buses will be available for use by all residents of the Shepparton Villages estate, via a booking system. Independent living residents will have the opportunity to utilise the buses for their own weekend leisure trips as well organised social, sporting or recreational events.
The buses will also allow residents to easily interact with fellow residents from all villages in Shepparton and Mooroopna, with regular planned meetings.
Shepparton Villages CEO, Kevin Bertram said, "The buses will really give the residents freedom, allowing them to stay in touch with the real world and the memories which have been built up over a lifetime."
Independent living residents will have the opportunity to receive training on the buses features, which will also be beneficial for those who volunteer for activities helping residents with restricted mobility enjoy shopping trips, excursions and social activities.
