The New Banksia Lodge - Kialla Gardens Village
Artist's preliminary perspective of the new Banksia Lodge Aged Care Facility
In line with its policy of upgrading its aged care facilities, Shepparton Villages is nearing completion of a new, $10.5 million, 65 bed, residential aged care facility at their Kialla Gardens Village, to address the need for replacement of Banksia Lodge at Tarcoola Village. Construction commenced in August 2007 and is scheduled for completion in October 2008.
The New Banksia Lodge will meet the needs of those who require both high standard nursing care, together with Residents who need only minimal care and will be “state of the art”, even improving on the benchmark standards of the recent new Acacia House at Tarcoola Village and Grevillea Lodge and Boronia House at Rodney Park Village.
Independance - Confidence - Safety
The new plan affords Residents the ability to maximise their independence, and is designed to actively promote their self esteem and confidence, while compensating for any disability. It also presents a welcoming aspect for visiting relatives and the community, while simultaneously providing a safe environment for both residents and staff. Careful consideration has been given to the extra needs of wheelchair residents and those who have walking aids.
In addition to the individual, specially appointed accommodation and indoor living spaces, the plans incorporate bright, secure, outdoor garden areas, which include a bowling green/mini putting green and raised garden beds, with accessibility for wheelchair bound gardeners and those with minimal movement.
At Shepparton Villages we are very excited at the prospect of caring for our Residents in such a wonderfully planned and beautifully designed facility.
In the past we have greatly prized the generosity of district people... the results of this generosity are there for everyone to see.
Kevin Bertram
CEO, Shepparton Villages
Since the establishment of our high aged care facilities at Tarcoola and Rodney Park Villages, we are more acutely aware of the value of integrating independent living accommodation with Resident accommodation for those needing special care. Such Villages, which accommodate people who are mobile and in good health, with those who are bedridden or less able to get about, provide important benefits to everyone.
As with the other two Villages at Mooroopna and Shepparton, the Shepparton Villages Board is committed to having differing levels of housing and care on each site. The Kialla Gardens Village will now offer, within one site, Independent Living Units and a new “ageing in place” amenity, which will incorporate a high level of nursing care. This will allow spouses and friends, who already live within the Village to visit with ease; thereby eliminating the loss of important social contacts for those who need special care.
